As we begin the final day of the British Showjumping National Championships, the Tack & Tailor Championship Arean 1 and UNIBED Championship Arena 2 have been combined to form the Championship Arena. The first title of the day went to Max Routledge and Ascadina PPZ, who claimed the Senior Foxhunter Masters title. Max bought the mare as a 3-year-old, started competing her as a 5-year-old and instantly thought she was something special. “I approached Sue and Tim Evans to buy her for me to keep riding. They took my word for it and stepped in, and they’ve been an incredible support,” Max commented. “She’s a great jumper and quite careful, but she can be a bit spooky so it’s just taking the time to get the confidence. She’s a very sweet and lovely horse.”

Nicole Pavitt and Cornet of Follyfoot (Bill) took home the Prestige Italia Big Star National 6 Year Old title in the Championship Arena. With an impressive jump off, the combination flew to the top of the class by over six seconds. “I didn’t need to end up being as fast as I was. Obviously when you have Joe and Izak behind you, I knew I needed to go as fast as possible. He’s a fantastic horse and a pleasure to ride. You know you’re going to be clear, you just have to get in between the wings. I have an advantage in that he has quite a big stride, but he’s just Mr Consistent,” Nicole explained. She added that Bill’s owner, Lady Sally Jobson-Scott, “set the difficult challenge a couple of weeks ago to win the 6 Year Olds as she came second with another horse a couple years ago.”

The National Team Jumping Championships took place over in Arena 3, with first place going to the Leicestershire Team, made up of Jessica Chadwick Thomas riding Ballyheerin BH, Isadora Wadd riding Tullibards Watson, Steve Garrod riding Ufonzo and Hayley Stevens riding Minea Fields. Isadora commented on behalf of the team, “it was an absolutely superb round for everyone. We all get on very well. We were really relaxed, and we had a great time being together.”

Closing out a successful week of showjumping here at Stoneleigh Park was the National 1.30m Open Championship Final in the Championship Arena. Phoebe Farman riding Tracy Priest’s Asena finished at the top of a class that saw 65 combinations come forward. “I’m really happy with her,” the Surrey-based rider said. "We took strides out everywhere and she was amazing, and she did everything I asked her to do. I knew that there were a lot of clears and that I needed to go fast.” Pheobe has had the 8-year-old mare for nearly a year, adding, “I’ve just been trying to work out how to best ride her and hopefully now I’ve finally figured it out. I’ve been concentrating on my older horses, so she hasn’t really been able to do that much, but now is her time to shine!”
