Countdown to a spectacular summer of equestrian sport at Hartpury

It’s just 166 days until the brightest young dressage and eventing riders descend on Gloucestershire for the FEI Dressage and Eventing European Championships for Young Riders & Juniors in July 2022.

Around 250 competitors from 25 nations are expected to make the journey to Hartpury this July, where potential future senior European, World and Olympic champions will compete for continental glory.

Taking place from 25-31 July 2022, the championships will see riders compete in a packed schedule across the disciplines of dressage and eventing. The event had been due to take place at Hartpury in 2020 but had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic.

Equestrian fans are in for a busy summer of equestrian sport, with the anticipated return of spectators to the NAF Five Star Hartpury Showjumping Spectacular (26-29 June), NAF Five Start Hartpury Festival of Dressage (6-10 July) and NAF Five Star International Hartpury Horse Trials (10-14 August)

Phillip Cheetham, Director of Hartpury Equine, said: “The European Championships are now very much on the horizon, and we can’t wait to welcome the brightest equestrian talent from across Europe. Our facilities, including the addition of a brand-new £730,000 arena, will ensure athletes from both disciplines can excel on the international stage. There’s a buzz at Hartpury and we can’t wait to get started.

“As always, we must thank the FEI for allowing us to host the event this year as well as the BEF, British Dressage and British Eventing, who are always steadfast in their support.”

Badminton Horse Trials’ course designer Eric Winter will set the challenge for the demanding cross-country phase of the FEI eventing championship and has also been confirmed to return as course designer for Hartpury’s annual horse trials in August. The August fixture is likely to prove particularly useful as a preparatory run for Burghley, Blenheim and the FEI Eventing World Championships for Seniors in Pratoni del Vivaro (Italy) scheduled for 14-18 September 2022.

Hartpury University and Hartpury College students will have an opportunity to support the running of these events through roles at the championships. This provides an exciting work experience opportunity for students on a range of college, university and postgraduate equine programmes, to gain real-life industry insights into large-scale equine events - from media management to event organisation.

An array of sponsorship and brand partner opportunities are available now, with the promise of extensive press and social media coverage and access to a large international audience. Exhibitor opportunities will also be available for those wishing to take advantage of trade stand space.

Stuart Emmerson, Director of Business Development at Hartpury, said: “The European Championships will provide an ideal opportunity for brands inside and outside of the equine industry, to reach a young international audience. Thanks to the increased international visitors, the event will also help us to showcase the Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire as a whole, as well as some of the incredible tourist attractions and places to visit we have in the region.

Partnership opportunities are varied and diverse at Hartpury, from research partnerships through to venue hire and student placements, so I’d urge anyone interested in learning more about what we can offer to get in touch.”
