A trio of Hartpury students secured impressive wins in their respective classes at The Abbey’s Dressage Show last weekend.

Jessica Blackmore, Chris Hammond and Katie Owens each produced excellent performances at the event. Blackmore and Owens will now be hoping to build on their success by playing a starring role at the Regional Championships in February half-term week.

Blackmore is on on the Equine Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) provided by British Dressage and British Evening and run exclusively at Hartpury.

The apprenticeship puts talented young riders based all over the country on the right path to succeed at the very highest level. Apprentices and their horses benefit from the support of mentors who have played a starring role in the equestrian world – as competitors and coaches.

Blackmore gained an impressive victory in the Prix St Georges class, riding the German-trained Ventoux-W to a score of more than 69%.

Hammond and Owens, both Hartpury Equine Academy riders, also produced great scores to cap a great day of riding for Hartpury students.

Hammond, riding Ruban D’or, boasted an impressive score of 70.79% in the Advanced Medium class, while Owens and GDH Skyfall rode away with a top mark of 68.13% in the Elementary class.

Blackmore and Owens will be joined at the Regional Championships by fellow Hartpury student Lucy Pincus, who is also on the AASE programme.

Nick Burton, Hartpury’s Equine Academy Director, said: “It was a great weekend of results and a reflection of these riders’ considerable progression since September.

“Results like these are a reflection of their hard work and determination and I have every confidence that if they continue to show this level of commitment and dedication, the students competing have a fantastic chance of securing strong positions at the Regional Championships.”
