A West Yorkshire Equestrian Centre has recently been awarded a prestigious seal of approval to begin providing riding lessons for disabled people thanks to gaining Accessibility Mark accreditation.

Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), in partnership with Hoof, the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) participation programme launched the Accessibility Mark scheme to encourage those who do not already partake in equestrian activities or would not usually have the opportunity to do so, to experience the many benefits that riding can bring.

Laura Brennan Equestrian Centre is a small family run centre based in Brighouse. A British Horse Society and Pony Club approved centre, the team teach riders of all abilities and specialise in exam preparation.

The centre has acquired a reputation for its high standards, and gained credibility in the local area as the place to go to learn to ride or advance their skills, something they hope to strive to continue with their disabled clients, having been told about the Accessibility Mark scheme by their BEF representative.

Chris Brennan praised the scheme and its simple route to affiliation to such a recognised organisation: “Having been established for 10 years, Accessibility Mark provides us with the opportunity to further expand our services, and was an obvious next step to moving the business forward.

“Experience and knowledge is central to providing a quality service and being able to tap into the know-how that the RDA has gained over the past 40 years is invaluable as well reassuring for our clients.”

Accessibility Mark status is awarded to a riding centre that has been approved by RDA following training and assessment. The close link with the RDA means that they offer continuous support to the establishment to ensure they provide you with a first class service and an experience that aims to be hugely beneficial. There are currently 30 Accessibility Mark approved centres across the country.
