A new foundation degree (FdA) will soon be available through Abingdon & Witney College at their recently refurbished Abingdon campus. The Events Management FdA is an innovative and exciting course, available full-time or part-time, that will help to develop future talent in this fast-growing sector, whether it is someone looking to start a career in events, a professional who wants to develop their skills, or someone who wants a complete career change.

With the UK events industry alone estimated to be worth £40 billion, the course will prepare students through a programme of project planning whilst exploring the latest theories that underpin managing small and large scale events.

Not only are traditional types of events covered – sports, music, live, corporate – there is also a specific focus on common events that take place in Oxfordshire; business and trade exhibitions, visitor attractions and festivals.

To take full advantage of this, the College will use its business connections from across the county, such as Truck Festival, The Saïd Business School and the Blenheim Horse Trials, to ensure students have a wide range of projects to work on. This means that students will be able to get valuable first-hand experience in planning and running events whilst networking with local employers.

Event management will be at the core of all the modules, whilst exploring a number of other interesting subjects such as people management, marketing, leadership, entrepreneurship, and risk management. Students can choose between studying the course full-time over two years or a more flexible part-time option over three years.

The Events Management FdA is the latest collaboration between the College and Oxford Brookes University, the institution responsible for awarding the qualification.

Angela Hayles, the Head of Faculty at the The Oxfordshire Business and Enterprise School at the College, said: “We are very excited to offer our new Oxford Brookes University Foundation Degree in Events Management. As students are only required to attend college one day per week, this course can be taken alongside work, meaning that you can join a close-knit community of 350 Higher Education students College-wide and learn in smaller, more intimate classes.”

The foundation degree will cost £7,000 per year full-time, and there are many financial options available to help a student fund their studies including student finance and advanced learner loans. You can find out more by visiting: bit.ly/AWfdevents.
