Brand new for this September is a suite of four year Integrated Foundation Degrees which are validated in partnership with Coventry University. These courses are ideal if you need more time to get to grips with the science aspect of your degree, or if you don't quite achieve the grades needed to go straight onto a three year degree. And they are great value for money! Years one and two are £4,500 per year, years three and four are £8,735 per year - so it's like getting four years for the price of three.

What the students say

Emma - BSc (Hons) Sport Science (Equine and Human)

Emma completed her BSc (Hons) at Moreton Morrell College and also undertook an additional placement year, which she spent working at a riding school and livery yard. Emma is completed a masters degree at Nottingham Trent University.

Emma says: “I thoroughly enjoyed my degree. I stayed at Moreton Morrell as a residential student and the centre had a real community feel. I especially enjoyed being able to bring my own horse, Sam, to the college and have him stabled just a few minutes away from where I was staying. The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful, especially when it came to writing my dissertation.”

Russell Guire - BSc (Hons) Equine and Sports Science

Russell has set up his own business, Centaur Biomechanics which uses specialist software to analyse the gait of horses, and designs exercises to minimise the risk of injury.

Russell says: “I suffer with severe dyslexia and I have to say that the learning support given by the college was fantastic. The smaller class sizes also meant I could cope with learning in a way I don’t think I could have done otherwise. Obtaining my degree was a great honour, giving me great pleasure and motivation.”

Qualifications

If you’re still considering your options in September or are not quite sure if you’re going to make the grades you’d hoped for, then there may be a place waiting for you at Moreton Morrell.

You may choose to come onto one of the new Integrated Foundation Degrees or look at other options including taking a year out to retake qualifications and get more experience.

Most of the courses at Moreton Morrell have a high science base so if you are looking to add additional qualifications to what you already have then looking at any biology based courses would be appropriate. If your results are close to what you were expecting then speak to your course tutor as they are always keen to review each student on an individual basis.

Top tips on clearing

Whatever happens on results day, you tried your best and you should be very proud! If you’re worried that you’re exams didn’t go to plan, don’t worry but be prepared with these handy top tips.

Do your research

You can already search for courses that have places available through clearing on the UCAS website. On UCAS Clearing you can search by subject and location, and all the course information for available courses at different universities is in one place.

Before results day find out about the courses you’re interested in by looking at modules as well as course title. Consider foundation years, which are a great option if you don’t meet the conditions of your offers. You can create a shortlist on the UCAS search tool and add the Clearing phone numbers to your contacts so you’re prepared to contact the university or college directly on results day if necessary.

Stay calm

Clearing can be a stressful process but it doesn’t need to be! Look back at your list of alternative courses and be prepared to call the admissions teams to discuss your options.  Don’t panic and rush to take the first place you’re offered, be sure the course meets your expectations. See this as a change of plan instead of a failure, don’t let emotions cloud your ability to make rational decisions.

Clearing help

If you do not get the exact grades that you want to get onto the course of your choice it is important to consider all your options. There is a Clearing drop-in session at Moreton Morrell College on Saturday 18 August, 10am-1pm where course tutors will be on hand to help you decide on your next steps.

For more information or to discuss places available for this September go to www.wcg.ac.uk/equine call the Clearing hotline on 01926 88 48 40.
