CSI2* 1.15m winner: Adam Botham and Flipper Nouvelle

Adam Botham capped off a successful weekend at Keysoe with a victory in the 1.15m CSI2*, riding Flipper Nouvelle. The seven-year-old Westphalian came to his yard over the summer, having been produced by Megan James and, latterly, Clark Glasgow. Adam bought the horse from Tim Stockdale, for whom he used to ride.

“He’s very fast, very careful, and just quite easy to ride, really – you just point him,” said Adam of the Flipper d’Elle progeny. “He loves winning, and since I’ve had him I’ve won loads; he’s great.”

The victory today marks Flipper Nouvelle’s first international win.

CSI2* 1.25 Small Grand Prix winner: Chloe Winchester and Little Luidam

82 started in the 1.25m CSI2*, but an incredibly fast round in the jump-off secured the win for Chloe Winchester and Little Luidam

The win was a poignant - and timely - one. Little Luidam was formerly competed by talented young rider Ella Popely, who was tragically killed in a car accident in early December of last year. Yesterday would have been her 19th birthday.

"I wanted to win for her," said an emotional Chloe. "It was like the horse knew today was the big one."

Together, Ella and the petite chestnut mare enjoyed success at shows across the continent, including Deauville, Verbier, and Bonheiden. In 2014, they won this class at the Keysoe summer international.

Chloe, who is based with Ella's mother, and Little Luidam's owner, Lea Popely, has made her international debut on the horse a fitting tribute to the memory of Ella, one of Great Britain's finest young talents.

CSI2* 1.45m Grand Prix winner: Robert Whitaker and Catwalk IV

Robert Whitaker rode to victory in the feature class, on the experienced Catwalk IV, finishing a whisker ahead of Ireland’s Trevor Breen in second on Bombay.

Robert’s win takes it to three Winter Keysoe Grand Prix wins in a row for the Whitaker dynasty, following cousin William’s win in 2015 and uncle Michael’s win in 2016 – will John return in 2018 to add his name to the list?

CSI2* 1.35m Speed winner:

The final class of the event saw riders competing late into Sunday night, following a bumper entry in earlier classes.

Joseph Clayton rode Carolus K DHI to a spectacular win, producing a double-clear in a blistering time of 28.24, some 2 seconds quicker than speed queen Chloe Winchester who picked up second on Belle Fleur 38
