Lara Dyson experienced both the highs and the lows at the recent British Dressage Northern Winter Regional Championship, held at Bishop Burton College, eventually qualifying two of the Cyden Stallions for The Winter Championships.

With all three Cyden Stallions competing, it was a busy few days for Lara and her team.

First into the arena was NWPCS-approved pony stallion, Cyden Oostings Amigo. Stepping up a level to Elementary, Amigo didn’t disappoint, in a strongly contested class, finishing second with a percentage of 69.01% and securing his place at The Winter Championships.

Consistent as ever at regional level, KWPN-approved Cyden Cadans M turned out an impressive performance to take second place in the Advanced Medium Restricted, with 68.90%, to gain his qualification.

Lara was the first to admit, rider error let down KWPN-approved Cyden Bodyguard Moorland, by missing out three of the compulsory movements and only completing three minutes of the five allowed, when she walked where she should have cantered and then halted and saluted when she should have walked, in the Advanced Medium Freestyle to Music.

This was particularly disappointing for Lara, considering what might have been, when Bodyguard was still awarded 68.67 percent.

The success for Lara is all the more rewarding considering she has had to take time out during the last six months after having a pacemaker fitted to her heart, so she can be forgiven for what she referred to as her ‘blonde’ moment during Bodyguard’s test.

Lara said: “I am so proud of all three of my boys. I never expected to qualify little Amigo, for such a young pony, he just takes everything in his stride. Cadans always pulls it out of the bag when I need him to, he really is a star and Bodyguard was a bit hot to start with but soon settled, I was gutted that my mistake let him down, but it happens to us all!”

“Cadans and Amigo will now concentrate on training for the nationals and Bodyguard will now work on competing at Prix St Georges to challenge him and give him more to think about, so exciting and scary times ahead. It will certainly test my pacemaker!”

Cyden Cadans M and Cyden Bodyguard Moorland will be standing at Stallion AI Services for a limited time this summer with frozen semen available from Cyden Oostings Amigo.
