A conversation with David Kempsell, co-founder and Managing Director of Wow Saddles, uncovered a surprising question.
He told us that at events this summer, he has continually been asked “Why are WOW saddles so cheap?” £2,700 or thereabouts is still a lot of money, but the question repeatedly comes after the potential client has looked at other makes, been shown what the WOW saddles are capable of, and understands that only the highest grades of leather and top-quality craftmanship go into their production.
His simple answer is …
1. Our prices are not inflated by paying riders tens of thousands in cash to ride in our saddles – all WOW riders use them because they understand and appreciate the difference they make to their horses’ way of going.
2. We don’t spend huge amounts advertising in every magazine, we get most of our business from word of mouth.
3. We research, design, develop and make our product in house in the UK, which saves a huge amount of money - and means we absolutely understand the reason for every detail of the saddles.
David’s final comment was “So if you are looking at a £3500+ saddle we hope you ask the question: what am I paying for and where is the value?”
