Amateur rider, Tam Thompson, from Northamptonshire, has secured sponsorship from equine feed company, Mollichaff, which is owned by HorseHage.

Mollichaff, which specialises in high fibre complete feeds and chaffs, ran a national search for an amateur rider to support for one year. The support includes a training bursary, Mollichaff product and Mollichaff-branded clothing, saddlecloth and rug as well as a regular ‘blog-spot’ on the Horsehage website.

Said Chris Tar of HorseHage: “Tam is the first rider to be sponsored by Mollichaff and we wanted to provide an opportunity to an amateur rider as we already support several professionals through the Team HorseHage sponsorships. We look forward to working with her and following her progress over the next 12 months.”

Tam (43) is a very enthusiastic committee member of the Cherwell Valley Riding Club and her horse, Beau, is a 15.2hh Irish Draught crossbred, age 18. Tam describes him as being “very grumpy and loathing kisses, but once tacked up, will do anything you ask of him!”

As well as being a member of the Cherwell Valley Riding Club Quadrille team, the pair enjoy a variety of disciplines including dressage, side-saddle and have just started show-jumping.

Said a delighted Tam on securing the sponsorship: “I am so thrilled to have this opportunity and I am hoping that the extra training through the bursary will help me to improve my riding and my confidence, so I can do Beau justice.”

As well as the training bursary and gear, Tam also won product from Mollichaff and after discussion with one of the HorseHage equine feeding adviser’s, has decided to try Beau on Mollichaff HoofKind Complete as he tends to be a good doer who holds his weight well over the summer.

Beau is currently fed on Mollichaff Extra with a low calorie balancer so by swapping to Mollichaff HoofKind Complete, his sugar intake has been dramatically decreased (perfect for this time of year) with the added convenience of having all his vitamins and minerals included, making  life much more simple for Tam. Beau weighs approx. 500-550kg so he is starting on 2.5 scoops each morning and evening (5 scoops/2.5kg in total per day) to ensure he receives the required amount of vitamins and minerals for a horse of his size.
