Anthony Ball Photography was named the Derriere Equestrian Photographer of the Year 2016 and saw off some very stiff competition from Lorna Simmonds at the recent event held in Gloucester.

The annual PHOTY competition organised by Claire Galer, MD and Founder of Derriere Equestrian, presents the opportunity to become the official photographer for the Derriere brand.  The successful PHOTY will be commissioned to provide everything from web images to commercial images and promotional material

Tony, the Gloucestershire based artistic equine and wedding photographer was judged on a variety of criteria ensuring his ability to work in challenging conditions.  His professionalism and natural talent for putting his subjects at ease enabled a successful photo shoot for all involved.  His portfolio was a stunning testament to his vision for the future of the Derriere brand.

Tony summed up his win saying,

“I was hugely excited to have been awarded the Photographer of the Year (#‎PHOTY) by Derriere Equestrian. Really looking forward to working with this great brand over the next 12 months.

I'd been shortlisted (Guides for Brides, Customer Service Awards for 2015 and 2016) in various wedding photography awards before but never won anything. My Equine Photography is at an early stage though I have photographed models before and regularly conduct on-location photoshoots. Even so, this award is something I am very proud of and I am really looking forward to working with Derriere Equestrian over the coming months to photograph some amazing images and work with some fantastic people.”

Clare Galer, faced a difficult decision when selecting the winner as both provided top class portfolios of their day at the competition, but in the end there could be only one.  She had these words to say about Tony.

“A big congratulations to Anthony from us all. The general consensus when judging your work, showed a strong creative input from yourself, good directing, styling, thought and artistic impression. Your interaction with the models was superb and they felt as ease working with your direction. The images received showed a variation of skill with lighting and direction and we would like to complement you on this aspect of your skillset. CONGRATULATIONS”

Having herself created a superbly professional portfolio of the event, Lorna Simmonds was the runner up and Claire could not fail to be impressed with the standard of her work.

“Congratulations to Lorna for her fabulous work through the day, Lorna worked quietly, professionally, with good artistic input and creativity which clearly shines through in her images. We were particularly impressed with Lorna’s dedication to the day, such fantastic results in imagery having been the first of such shoots of this kind for Lorna. The lighting was testing for everyone and Lorna’s images presented for submission show she clearly worked well with the natural light available and has a strong skill for this type of Photography”
