Young Ben Finney of Woodhall Spa was the lucky winner of an Alltech Lifeforce competition to win a lesson with dressage rider Lara Dyson at her yard in North East Lincolnshire.

Ten-year-old Ben was entered into the competition in Equestrian Life magazine by his mum Alison who was shocked when Alltech called to say he had won.

A pupil at St Andrews Primary school in Woodhall Spa, Ben has been an active member of the Blankney branch of the Pony Club for three years.

He has owned his pony Freddie for two and a half years and the pair regular participate in Pony Club flatwork lessons, so were excited at the prospect of a lesson with a top dressage rider.

Ben won the competition last August but unfortunately had to wait some months to enjoy his prize as 14-year-old Freddie went lame just before the family were due to travel up to Lara’s yard, with suspected laminitis.

With further investigation it was discovered that Freddie had in fact got an abscess.

So, with Freddie having to recuperate and Lara’s busy schedule combining competing and working, Ben finally got his lesson this March.

On arrival at Cyden Dressage, home to all the Cyden Stallions, Lara had a quick chat with Ben to find out what he would like to achieve from the lesson, with Freddie.

Ben was accompanied to the lesson by his whole family and Isla Browne, Alltech’s UK Marketing Manager.

“Ben was so excited to win the competition and was a little nervous at the prospect of a lesson with such an experienced rider but there was no need as Lara was lovely throughout Ben’s lesson”, said Ben’s mum Alison.

“In a short space of time Ben learnt a lot that he can work on at home to improve his riding and I think his beaming face showed how much he enjoyed it” she added.

Lara Dyson is a brand ambassador for the Lifeforce Range of supplements from Alltech and Ben also won a tub of Lifeforce Elite as part of his prize.
