The Bolesworth International  ‘Design A Jump’ Art Competition was launched today at Huxley Primary School in Cheshire. School children  across the North West are being given the opportunity to design one of the show jumping fences for Bolesworth International, a world class sporting event happening in the heart of Cheshire from 16-19th June.

The event team at Bolesworth are inviting youngsters to get out their paints, crayons or computers to create a colourful and eye-catching show jump design. The imaginative artwork could celebrate famous iconic landmarks in the North West or key designs that symbolise Cheshire e.g. Cheshire Cat, Chester Cathedral, the Eastgate Clock, The Salt Mines.

Top show jumper Anthony Condon along with horse Oscar, visited Huxley Primary School to talk to the pupils about his own sporting achievements and to tell them about how they can get involved in such an iconic sporting event in their local area through the competition. Anthony was British National Champion in 2012, he has two European bronze medals and has represented Ireland five times in the Nations Cup, including recently in Al Ain (UAE).

The children had a chance to pet Oscar the horse and to ask Anthony about his competition successes and training during a 'Questions and Answers' session in the School Hall .

Lorna Pleavin, Head Teacher at Huxley Primary School, was excited to involve the children is such an important sporting event.

"The children were thrilled to meet Anthony Condon and Oscar the horse, today has given the children the chance to meet a world class sporting star and the design competition is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to get involved in such an exciting international sports event. We are also bringing the children to the free Schools Day on the Thursday of the show for the second year running, we had such a wonderful time last year and this year's event promises to be even bigger and better."

The closing date for the competition is May 2nd and the winner will get to see their design built and positioned in the International Arena at Bolesworth International. The winner and their whole family will receive tickets for the show and have a 'meet and greet' with the top riders at the event.

Top Show Jumper, Anthony Condon, added:

"It's been wonderful to meet all of the children here today, to chat to them about how we look after the horses and to tell them a bit more about the sport. The design competition will give school children the chance to be a part of a sporting event that puts Cheshire on the world stage. The event attracts the world's media especially during this Olympic year, and so it's highly likely that they will see their own jump on television. I know the Bolesworth team are really excited to see the designs that the children come up with."
