Douglas Crawford Flies the Flag for Scotland at Frickley Park Horse Trials

The five and a half hour trip down from the Scottish Borders, proved well worth it for Douglas Crawford, as he sealed victory in the Robinson Animal Healthcare Animalinex® CCIY1* at Frickley Park Horse Trials.

Having competed in the junior section in the previous two years, this was the first time that Douglas, 20, had stepped up to young riders at this particular event.

Riding Geoff and Elspeth Adams’ chestnut gelding Shadow Lad, the pair finished on their dressage score of 26.2% to continue their run of double clears in every event they have entered since becoming a partnership in February.

The seven-year-old was previously owned by Ben Hobday, and has already achieved some notable results with Douglas in the saddle, including 10th place at Floors Castle in the CCI* and second place in the Novice section at Hopetoun Horse Trials.

Douglas said: “The whole team was thrilled with our dressage score, as, although he is incredibly talented he can get a bit hot in the arena. He was foot perfect going cross-country and jumped a lovely show jumping round.”
