This year’s British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance was a great success, attracting more than 200 competitors from all over the UK. The 160km Speedi-Beet Red Dragon was hotly contested with a close finish but it was young rider, Emily Cooke, who raced to the end, securing the 2018 championship title with her homebred grey gelding, Lady’s Man.

At just 15 years of age, Emily, who is based in Carmarthen with her family and their team of endurance horses and ponies, has risen through the ranks in the world of endurance. After a very successful season with her 10-year-old, 13.2hh Arab x Caspian endurance horse, Lady’s Man, Emily currently stands as Supreme Champion in the Endurance GB rankings.

Said Emily: “Having completed the Dragon’s Flame Graded Ride last year at the Red Dragon Festival of Endurance, it was a big ambition of mine to take part in the Speedi-Beet Red Dragon 160km. My aim going into the event was to complete the ride but to actually win it was just amazing!”

The British Horse Feeds Little Dragon (80km) title went to Ginny Gidley and Desert Kudoss and The Fibre-Beet Dragon’s Tail (80km, plus 42km) winner was Nicola Sherry and Silver Zourra.

The British Horse Feeds British Riding Clubs Endurance Team Final saw seven teams take part and it was the team from Yorkshire who came out on top. Robert Blane and Buzz, Tahnee Burgess and Normoss The Duke, Sarah Mumby and Sioux, Tricia Heaps and Athone Georgie, and Linda Birkitt with Llanfyllin Roseanne made up the winning Yorkshire team.
