Friday Round Up:

The remarkable pony Tixylix bowed out in trademark fashion as classes began at the  equestrian.com Liverpool International Horse Show on Friday.

Tixylix was previously ridden with outstanding success by Jessica Mendoza, who has risen rapidly through the senior ranks and was travelling reserve for the Great Britain showjumping team at this summer’s Rio Olympics.

And veteran campaigner Tixylix has maintained an amazing sequence of results with teenager Jodie Hall McAteer, who rode the pony for a final time in competition at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

And they duly delivered in the 148cms class, sponsored by Pony of the Year, as they saw off the opposition in convincing fashion less than three months after taking similar honours at Birmingham’s Horse of the Year Show.

Of the 25 starters, five combinations made it through to the jump-off, and it was just Jodie and Antonia Platt who went clear again.

Jodie’s time of 34.44 seconds proved way too good, though, with Anthonia and Carnhill Luna following them home in 38.05 seconds. Third place, meanwhile, went to Bobbie Heath and Air Flow, who collected four faults in a time of 35.22 seconds.

A delighted Jodie said: “I’m really pleased with Tixylix’s performance today and the whole build up to the show but obviously I’m also a bit sad as its my final time with her in the ring.”

Talking about the combos best highlights, “European Championship Team Gold and Indidviual Silver last year was amazing we won the Grand Prix at the British Masters, Pony of the Year Show and Horse of the Year Show, Olympia as well as here at Liverpool, she’s won everything for me. I don't think there’s one that exists that’s quite so consistent or as quirky as her.”

Following a flourish of success at last year’s inaugural Equestrian.com Liverpool International Horse Show, 13 year old Angel Tough kicked of her 2016 campaign in winning style, clinching the first amateur class on Friday.

The challenging course resulted in six combinations jumping off, with four clears, a determined Angel topped the leader board with a time of 33.61 over a second clear of her closest rival.

Manchester based Angel has only had the ride on Corgary Atoz for three or four weeks and has been jumping 1.10m and a couple of 1.20m, a regular winner Angel said, ‘I’ve got two horses here this year so I’m going for six wins, I don’t like to share!’

It’s very much a family affair - Angel’s mum is also competing at this year’s show, asked about family rivalry Angel said,  ‘Mum supports me but I always tell her I’m going to beat her - I prefer to win.’
