Parwood Equestrian Centre in Guildford, Surrey was swathed in sunshine yesterday and ten competitors returned home happy after securing their place in the Haygain Pony Discovery Championship Final following a competitive second round competition.

Twenty-seven competitors set out over yesterday’s course with their sights set on securing one of the ten qualification places available and the final jump off was contested by the six combinations still in with a shot of winning.

It was 12 year-old Georgia Sims from Dunstable, Bedfordshire who succeeded in taking the top spot and she did so on board Laura Sims’ 12 year-old grey mare, Fairfax Hot Tottie. Having already produced two clear rounds, Georgia and her pony jumped again with great accuracy and speed to finish up with a treble clear in 24.44 seconds and this time was to prove impossible to catch.

Thirteen year-old Meg Acomb from Capel, Surrey took second place with Sophie Acomb’s 9 year-old grey gelding, Jumping Charlie V after they jumped a treble clear in 26.68 seconds.

Third place went to 12 year-old Anna Ball from Camberley, Surrey and she rode Oakmeade Nutmeg, a 9 year-old chestnut mare owned by Tig Matthews. This combination also picked up a treble clear and they clocked it up in 32.35 seconds.
