Champagne corks could be heard popping in Hannah Bigg’s lorry at Kingston Maurward after the International rider and 7 year old Don Caledonia (Archie) become Medium Freestyle to Music and Medium Open Regional champions. The latter a title she now holds for 2 years running.
In Monday’s music test, the partnership saw off stiff competition with a new music program scoring them a huge 78.22%. Produced by celebrated Freestyle to Music composer Tom Hunt, the piece comprised of popular melodies from ‘Tinie Tempah’ and ‘Labrinth’.
“I loved riding to my new music. I took a gamble but it paid off. We had 8’s and 9’s
from the judges and the comments showed that they loved it too! Apparently the audience were buzzing and everyone was talking about it.”
Hannah believes the Hanoverian gelding by Don Schufro is an incredible talent and proved himself even when his freestyle test was almost cut short, “He tries his heart out for me every time I ask and even kept his concentration when the stewards opened the doors to the indoor just as we were walking towards it, I don’t think they had realised we hadn’t finished!”
Selected to compete in last years World Young Dressage Horse Championships in Verden, Archie has been on a recent winning streak, which continued in Tuesday’s Medium Open class. Another successful performance scored them 71.22%, which will be celebrated with “bananas and bubbles all round” exclaimed Hannah. “There's still so much more to come with him as he strengthens up muscularly, but his greatest strength is his temperament and our partnership. He always tries his best for me and loves to perform. As Tinie Tempah sang as we trotted down the final centre line, 'our love makes us invincible'!”
