Haygain has joined forces with World Horse Welfare to support two exciting initiatives.
Haygain is delighted to announce their support of World Horse Welfare. Haygain will be sponsoring “Macy”, one of the sculptures on the World Horse Welfare Invisible Horse Sculpture Trail that will be exhibited at the 2016 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, from the 4th to 8th May, at which World Horse Welfare is Charity of the Year.
The Invisible Horse initiative has been launched by World Horse Welfare to highlight the plight of the most vulnerable of equines; the horses which often suffer in silence as people either cannot or choose not to see them. From the horses left in barns and stables for weeks on end, to those working long hours in Honduras, Senegal or Cambodia who go unnoticed by governments and policymakers, the horses transported long distances across borders for slaughter and those who that are sadly sometimes found too late. This year, join World Horse Welfare and Haygain in shining a spotlight on these invisible horses; together, we will do all we can to make them visible and get them the care they need.
The Invisible Horse Sculpture Trail will showcase 14 beautiful sculpted 7hh horses, cast from the original by sculptor and artist Judy Boyt, designer of the Badminton trophy. Judy’s “muse” is rescue horse, May, who has become the embodiment of every invisible horse. World-renowned artists and riders have taken inspiration from the stories of some of the charity’s rescues to paint the individual sculptures, donating their time free of charge.
The Haygain sculpture will be based on one of the charity’s rescue cases, Macy and painted by Amy Goodman, an equestrian sculptor and portrait artist who is based in Hampshire; Macy came into World Horse Welfare’s care in January 2013, when she was found in an appalling condition. Macy's prognosis was deemed so poor that the team reached the difficult decision to put her to sleep. However, Macy rallied her spirits and survived along with her 10 month-old filly foal, Loca. The pair underwent their rehabilitation at Hall Farm and made miraculous recoveries, blossoming into healthy and confident horses, in spite of their terrible experiences.
Amy was inspired by Macy’s story and so chose her for the Invisible Horse Trail. “When I saw the video of Macy at death's door, with hypothermia lying in the snow, frozen, with her foal standing near her, I couldn't help but cry and be touched by their story. To see her months later in amazing health, happily grazing in a field shows the truly dedicated and incredible work of those involved with World Horse Welfare,” said Amy.

The 14 sculpted horses will be available to buy at a charity auction later in the year.
