After launching a new campaign earlier in the year, Horse of the Year Show are pleased to announce the details of six ‘HOYS Superfans’ who will be working with the show that is held at the Resorts World Arena, NEC Birmingham from 2nd – 6th October 2019.   Each ‘Superfan’ completed an extensive application process and have been selected based on their enthusiasm, knowledge and love for the show that they will be sharing with visitors prior to this years’ event.

About the Campaign

The ‘HOYS Superfan’ social campaign gives the opportunity for the HOYS Ultimate Superfan to join the Press Team for one day at Horse of the Year Show. This year, we have a range of exciting masterclasses and displays scheduled over the course of the five days. Hosting the finals for many National Showjumping titles and International Showjumping classes, the Pony Club Mounted Games Prince Philip Cup Final, the finale to the showing year and masterclasses with world-class equestrians, there are many highlights at this years’ show for the HOYS Superfans to get involved with.

The six lucky HOYS Superfans have been set up as an affiliate with our online ticketing partner, The Ticket Factory, and each have a link which is individual to them. By purchasing your tickets through these links, tracking will be available on the number of sales they have generated. Whoever generates the most tickets sales through their affiliate links by 31st August 2019 will be crowned the Ultimate HOYS Superfan and will receive a very special, unique and never offered before prize…

Check out the prize!

One lucky winner will be awarded the title of the Ultimate HOYS Superfan, and all of the perks that come with it! The winner will be invited to spend a day backstage with the Press Team at HOYS and show ambassador, Hannah Eccles. This will involve working alongside well-known equestrian journalists, interviewing riders, capturing elements of the show for social media, and gaining first hand experience of the organisation behind one of the biggest horse shows in the UK. To end the day, the winner – plus one very lucky friend – will be invited to enjoy the evening performance with full hospitality in the Andrews Bowen International Arena.

The runners up will also each receive a pair of tickets to come along and enjoy the show on the Sunday evening for the Gala Evening Finale.

Meet the Superfans

 Emma Smith

Age: 34

Location: Suffolk

“At a young age, I came to HOYS to buy my hat with my birthday money, dreaming of riding in those rings.

Nearly 20 years later, my dream came true and the wait was worth every second. The desire to do it again is infectious! But it’s more than just qualifying that gives me my passion.

Horses provide me with the enjoyment and love at the end of a difficult day, that every horse lover can relate to.

I look forward to supporting HOYS 2019 where we celebrate our wonderful relationship with such a beautiful animal.”

Hannah Gill

Age: 23

Location: Shropshire

“I’m Hannah, a 23 year old student from Somerset.  Carriage driving takes up the majority of my horsey-history!  Our three horses (Dandy the Fallabella, Jacko the Welsh Pony and Glen the Clydesdale) were broken to drive, and I also took part in driving trials, which I loved!

I now study MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy, have my own photography business specialising in equine and canine photoshoots, and have taken up horse riding again (the prospect of doing things with my legs was very alien at first!).

I am hugely excited to be involved with HOYS, and look forward to working with the team!”

“Hi, my name is Katie, I'm 16 years old and I am currently studying for my A levels. I'm based in Lancashire and have two ponies Boniface Fflossi (Floss) and Asletts Fancy That (Skippy). We compete in showing and working hunter at local level but my favourite discipline is dressage. In dressage we have progressed from unaffiliated competitions to competing twice at national championships gaining a 3rd as my highest placing. I have attended HOYS with my mum each year for as long as I can remember and would love to compete there one day. You can follow our journey on my Facebook page: Katie Greenwood Dressage”

Kay Johnston

Age: 20

Location: Gretna

“Hi everyone, my name is Kay and I'm 20 years old. I've been riding since I was 7 and am now lucky enough to not just own four fantastic horses but also work as a groom on a lovely family yard. I've been a huge fan of the show ever since my first visit back in 2009 and ever since have returned almost every year and when not have always found a way to watch from home. I can't thank the HOYS team enough for this opportunity and look forward to working with then and the rest of the Superfans!!”

“Hi, I’m Lauren! I’ve been a horse lover my whole life and have just finished my first year studying them at NTU. This will be the 3rd year I’ve been to HOYS and I am so excited and grateful to be chosen as one of HOYS’ super fans! There’s a real buzz at HOYS. My first visit had me hooked. There’s something for everyone, whether that’s at the variety of trade stands, watching the breath-taking show jumping or to admire the skill and beauty of the other horses competing. I hope you will come and join in the fun!”

Becky Martin

Age: 20

Location: Huddersfield

“Hi! I’m Becky, I’m a 19-year-old university student who is just about to complete my second year at Bishop Burton College studying BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Science and Coaching. I’m a bubbly, passionate and ambitious individual, with a great love for sport, music, food and animals (especially horses). How did I get here? Let’s just say, a young girl’s obsession for horses soon developed into a focused career aspiration that hopefully one day will lead me to work with the elite in the equestrian world, or so I hope! I’m a Yorkshire lass right to the core, straight out of Huddersfield, but whilst I will always keep the white rose with me, I aim to travel the globe to see what the world has to offer me (and maybe… just maybe, what I can offer the world).”
