The Hurlingham Polo Association is running a course to become HPA accredited Coaches.

The course will be held at the Beaufort Polo Club from the 16th-18th September 2015 and is specifically designed for polo players who would like to become accredited HPA coaches. To take part you must be over 18 years old, 0 goals or above  and be a member of the HPA with a base in the UK.

There is a qualification form which you must get approved to qualify for the course, this is to ratify that all who take part are of a suitable standard. The enrolment fee for the course is £75 and the fee for the first two days is £100 each. The third day is the assessment day and if the coaches deem you suitable to be assessed this will be charged at a separate rate of £75.

 

The two days are teaching days, for the participants to practice, perfect and learn from others to improve their teaching skills before the assessment. There will also be guest speakers throughout the two days giving guidance on coaching, the techniques that a commonly used and any pitfalls that are easily fallen into.

 

The individual assessment is given on content knowledge, teaching polo mounted and teaching polo on a wooden horse. The participant has to pass all three areas to pass overall. They are then graded according to their assessment, the grading is a follows:

 

  • Assistant  Club Instructor – Qualified to assist with a lesson under the supervision of a registered HPA coach or instructor.

 

  • Club Instructor- Qualified to instruct unsupervised but may need guidance.
