Bishop Burton College to host prestigious International Youth Championships
Bishop Burton College will be opening its doors to hundreds of talented young riders this month for the annual British Eventing International Youth Championships.
All competing riders will be amongst the best youth athletes from across the UK, having been selected to represent their regions competing in a range of dressage, showjumping and cross-country classes from Wednesday 26 July to Sunday 30th July. Riders will compete at CCI2*, PT105 and BE100 level.
Bishop Burton Equine Director Robyn Cherry said “We’re delighted to be hosting the International Youth Championships for a third year. It’s fantastic to be able to see the next generation of equine athletes compete at such a high standard.”
Courses have been designed by Joe Weller, British Eventing Gold Course Builder and a BE Gold Course Designer. Joe has been a member of the XC build team for Burghley CIC5* since 2005 and was part of the XC repair team for the Eventing competition at the 2012 London Olympics. He has made best use of the Bishop Burton parkland, to devise inviting courses over the undulating ground.
Robyn commented “Joe has transformed our parkland ready for the event, which promises to be exhilarating and enjoyable for all involved.”
An exciting opening ceremony, exclusively for riders and their families, will start the competition in style on Wednesday 26 July. The ceremony will feature liberty and classical dressage rider Mia Rodley, a licensed Parelli Professional. Mia has her own horse training and teaching business - The Heart of Horsemanship - and has worked closely with classical dressage Master Peter Maddison Greenwell of El Cabello de Espana and Ben Atkinson of Atkinson Action Horses.
Mia’s performance will include liberty, where the horse has no tack, classical dressage, stunt and trick riding.
Bishop Burton College, which offers college and university level courses in a wide range of subjects, will also be tapping into its facilities to offer competitors and their families a range of unique experiences. Events include a demonstration of Bishop Burton’s equine water treadmill, an equine science experience in the specialist laboratories and a tour of the Animal Management Centre, featuring the college’s new squirrel monkeys.
Admission to the championships is free and spectators are very welcome to the competition, taking place from Thursday 27 - Sunday 31 July. There will be lots of trade stands for visitors to treat themselves and well-behaved dogs on leads are also welcome.
