When it comes to exercise boots, there are three major features to look for: protection, comfort and airflow. With the Exoskeleton exercise boot by Cryochaps, your horse can have all three.

Superior Protection Against Strike Impacts

The Exoskeleton has been impact tested against other market leading exercise boots, and the results speak for themselves. When hit with 5 joules of force, the Exoskeleton transmitted less than 5,500 Newtons. This is compared to over 6,000 Newtons for the next best boot, and over 10,000 Newtons for two models of exercise boot. The impact test shows that far less force is transmitted through the Exoskeleton than other market leading exercise boots.

The external skeleton and internal secondary armour provide unparalleled protection against strikes and impacts. The Exoskeleton has been designed to provide much-needed impact protection to the areas that need it most. The internal secondary armour, made of a specialised blended polymer, provides softness, flexibility and durability. This layer can deform and revert to its original shape without damage, allowing it to provide ultimate shock absorption time and time again.

Comfortable and Lightweight Tendon Boots

Regardless of your chosen discipline, your horse’s tendon boots need to be like a second skin so they do not affect the horse's movement or comfort.

The Exoskeleton is designed to be lightweight meeting FEI regulations to allow uninterrupted performance. Water and sweat can add weight to the boot but the specialised materials wick away any moisture, even when wet the boots still smash the FEI weight limits.

The spacer fabric covers the whole boot. It provides cushioning and comfort, wicks away water and sweat, and allows air to circulate through the boot. This fabric is designed to help keep your horse’s legs as dry as possible, and with the increased air flow it will limit sweat build up and dry off wet legs, lessening the potential of rubs on wet soft skin.

Airflow and Minimising Heat Build Up

During exercise, the tendons in your horse’s lower legs produce heat. When insulated by boots or bandages, this heat can build up to potentially damaging levels. Whilst we always recommend removing boots or bandages after exercise and icing with Cryochaps ice boots, there is now a way to minimise that heat build-up during exercise.

The Exoskeleton has been designed with an innovative forced convection cooling system. As your horse enters the flight phase of each stride, the tendons at the back of the leg recoil and relax. This creates an air gap between your horse’s leg and the boot, and air is forced across the back of the leg through strategically placed vents in the boot. This helps to take heat away from the leg, helping to minimise potentially harmful heat build up during exercise.
