Cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew (“Aggers” to his legions of fans and followers) is to appear on Horse & Country TV (Sky Channel 253 and online with H&C Play) as the guest in the latest episode of the channel’s flagship show, “Rudall Rides With…”.

In each episode, H&C Presenter Jenny Rudall hacks out with a celebrity from the equestrian world for an informal interview on horseback.

So why Aggers? The answer is that, in recent months, he’s become an increasingly familiar figure at equestrian events up and down the country. In his own words: “No-one was more surprised than me when I was asked to commentate on equestrianism at The Olympics. I had never ridden before or ever wanted to. Now I am on the road to Rio, have completed my first broadcast and have even taken up riding.”

In the programme Aggers and Jenny discuss why he’s chosen to learn Western style riding, the challenge of commentating on a new sport, and the welcome he’s received from all sections of the equestrian community.

Jenny Rudall commented: “There’s something about riding side by side that creates an intimacy that draws people out of themselves in a way that you can never achieve in a more formal interview. My problem working with Aggers was that, as a life long cricket fan, I had to stay focussed on horses rather than spending the whole show talking about Test Match Special.”

Aggers added: “It’s the longest I’ve every spent in the saddle so that was slightly eye-watering. I really enjoyed the day and I didn’t fall off – I will leave it to Horse & Country TV’s discerning viewers to decide how I’m getting on.”

Rudall Rides With Jonathan Agnew premieres on Thursday 23rd June at 9pm on Horse & Country TV, Sky Channel 253. The channel can also be watched online and on smartphones and tablets via apps with H&C Play, horseandcountry.tv/play
