Kate Negus Saddlery has added a new style of double headpiece to its collection, the Double Grand Prix.

The Double Grand Prix is made using quality English leather and comes complete with a throatlash in addition to three hangers on each side to attach the noseband and cheekpieces to, giving riders a permanent throatlash for those who prefer it or need it for competition. As per the original Grand Prix Headpiece, the double version has a shaped design to reduce pressure on the horse’s ears and benefits from a wide, padded leather section that sits on the poll for comfort. The addition of noseband hangers helps to further relieve pressure on the poll.

“Many riders use our Grand Prix Padded Headpiece as a double and a cavesson or flash, but when used as a double, it doesn’t have a throatlash,” says Julia Andrews from Kate Negus Saddlery. “As some rules state a throatlash is essential on a double, we’ve created the Double Grand Prix, so there’s no compromise on the horse’s comfort, but all the straps you could possibly need are there ready to use. It can be purchased as an upgrade on our range of double bridles, or can also be bought on its own.”

The Double Grand Prix Headpiece is available in black and chestnut in sizes cob, full and extra full. Please note that all chestnut variations and extra full size are made to order and have a lead time of three weeks. It has a RRP of £115 when bought on its own or costs an extra £75 when selected as an upgrade on regular headpiece bridle at time of purchase.
