Kentucky Horsewear has taken another step forward in design for fetlock protection with the launch of the Kentucky Moonboot. The small, ultra light boot marries together the latest in technical materials with an emphasis on protection, comfort and freedom of movement, without compromising on style.

As showjumping courses become increasingly more technical, riders must adjust their horses’ balance, impulsion and length of stride in a split second, and lighter poles in shallow cups demand that a horse must jump cleanly, but without wasting time. The Moonboot has been designed with leading International Showjumpers to allow a good hind leg action without exaggerating the balance of the horse.

The boot’s strike zone is made of impact-protective D3O material, which locks on impact and disperses the blow in order to give the hind fetlock joint optimum protection from injuries caused by the horse as it leaves the ground before a fence. A light but tough TPU outer shell also helps to protect against impact, while the neoprene fabric offers freedom of movement and comfort. The Moonboot is fastened with a single Velcro fastener for ease of use, and is designed to stay in place and remain secure.

Testing results, sales and feedback from showjumpers worldwide have proven that Moonboots are the fetlock boots of the future.

 D3O

D3O is a patented smart material with high shock absorbing properties. In standard conditions, the molecules flow freely allowing the material to remain soft and flexible, but on impact they lock together to absorb the energy and reduce the force transmitted to the horse, before instantly returning to its flexible state. D3O is strain-rate sensitive, which means that the stronger the impact, the more the molecules lock.
