International Para showjumper, Laura Goodall was crowned Grade II Champion at the recent National Para Equestrian Championships riding her seasoned campaigner Guusje, to retain the title they won in 2020.

The Championships took place during the British Show Jumping National Championships at Stoneleigh Park and the pair secured the win with two stunning double clear rounds.

Laura, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2015, has been competing in Para Show Jumping with Guusje, known as Suzie at home, for two years.

To top off a spectacular day, Laura and her other ride, Intenable du Forgeron, owned by Suzanne Gill, also took second place in a competitive field, jumping a testing 80cm course.

Laura, who is sponsored by Robinson Animal Healthcare said: “‘I’m so delighted with the results for the nationals. This is the second show I’ve done with two rides. We weren’t sure how it would go with my MS and fatigue setting in but I managed!

“After the fast clear on Suzie who was on top form, I couldn’t feel my legs so my second horse was going to be a bit touch and go but thankfully I made it round before I lost complete use of my legs (although I couldn’t walk for a while after)!

“This was my fifth ride on Intenable du Forgeron and second show, so to come second at the National Championships was incredible. A massive thank you to Robinsons Animal Healthcare for their continued support, without sponsors like these, none of this would be possible.”

Para Showjumping is increasing in popularity and Laura is a great ambassador for the sport. Providing competitive jumping opportunities for disabled riders, Para Showjumping is run in conjunction with British Showjumping and Riding for the Disabled Association.

The Para Jumping league allows registered para riders to compete within specific graded jumping categories, with heights ranging between 60cm-90cm.
