A Master Saddler, Master Bridle Maker, Master Harness Maker and Master Saddle Fitter, Helen runs HR Saddlery and is no stranger to national recognition.

In 2015 she gained a scholarship from QEST (Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust) for furthering her knowledge for saddle manufacture and restoration, helping to preserve this knowledge for future generations.

Said Helen: “It is a great honour to be recognised as an inspirational entrepreneur especially during these difficult times.

“I would like to think I live and breathe the industry I am so passionate about.  It allows me to be creative and the work is so varied one day is never the same.

“Passing on the knowledge I have gained over many years and helping new people in the industry is fantastic and I get a lot back from supporting others in the endeavours.

“Whether giving talks at Pony Club and Riding Club, judging at the National Saddlery Competition or BETA International, it is great to give back to an industry that has given me so much.

“I am delighted to have been selected as one of this year’s #ialso100 female entrepreneurs. I am looking forward to the opportunities being a part of this campaign will offer to raise the profile of the Saddlery Trade and the successes of the UK’s businesswomen.”

Added Society of Master Saddlers’ Chief Executive, Hazel Morley: “Everyone is delighted that Helen’s hard work and success has been recognised with this campaign.

“Without doubt she is very inspirational, getting up at the crack of dawn to ride her horses whatever the weather before heading out to saddle fit or to the workshop.”

Founded in 2017, the Small Business Britain’s Entrepreneur campaign showcases female role models to help and inspire all small businesses through content, stories and events. It particularly aims to highlight trailblazing female entrepreneurs that lead small businesses alongside other activities.

Entrepreneur and Small Business Britain were founded by Michelle Ovens CBE, who is also the director of Small Business Saturday UK.

“Congratulations to all the inspiring women chosen to join this year’s #ialso100,” said Michelle.

“Despite the significant obstacles thrown at them in the last year, female entrepreneurship continues to grow and flourish. We need to continue and increase our support for these incredible women and celebrate their amazing strength in the face of huge challenges.”
