Waverley Stud is delighted to have welcomed six healthy and beautiful foals this season all intended for the highest levels in sport.

Owner Sara Longworth has developed the small, high quality stud over the years to produce exceptional dressage horses with world class breeding, and is well known for providing foals and young horses to British and International dressage riders.

This year’s crop is another stunner, ‘in fact’, said Sara, ‘it may be our best yet.  We continually strive to upgrade the quality of our breeding herd.  We use Elite or State Premium mares from proven mare families  - by proven I mean mare families that have produced successful sport horses generation after generation.’

Last year for example, the stud acquired two Elite mares from the famous Love Story line, the family extensively profiled in the July 2015 edition of Pferde forum the Oldenburg Verband’s monthly magazine.  Lady Sunshine and Lady Sun are from an exclusive branch of the family that has produced an extraordinarily high number of licensed Grand Prix stallions and successful sport horses, for example Sir Diamond, Decamerone, Jazz Mate, Furst Wilhelm (with his gorgeous new son Furst William) and the glorious auction horse Bonaire just to name a few.  These horses are closely related - full siblings and close cousins - to the Waverley mares.  ‘These genes  work,’ says Sara,  ‘simple as that.’

‘On top of family and genes, I believe in only using performance tested mares as it means they have been assessed under saddle with their own and a test rider at 3 years old.  No mean feat for a baby – and a wonderful indication of temperament.’

First born this year, on April 6, was a wonderful bay filly by Bordeaux out of the beautifully bred Elite Oldenburg mare, Lady Sun.  This long-legged and super correct filly demonstrated exceptional balance and athleticism from day one.  She has one of the best top lines Sara has ever seen on a foal.  Closely related to PSI auction price highlight Bonaire, as well as the stallions noted above, this exceptional filly is sired by one of the best stallions in Germany.  All being well, she is sure to be a future star.

Next was May Day foal Waverley Dancing In The Dark.  This gorgeous dark bay colt, by Danciano and out of Royal Romantic (Rohdiamant x Donnerhall), carries some of the most respected mare bloodlines in Oldenburg.  Danciano was the Premium Stallion at the 2012 Verden licensing and is known for his exceptional rideability.  This exceptionally friendly and trainable colt has a beautifully marked face, four small white socks and is highly energetic and uphill.  He is a powerful compact model with super cadence in all his paces.

Just a day later, Waverley Night Music was born to the elegant and very beautiful mare, Zouelle. This stunning black colt is by Negro (who stood 18th on the WBFSH rankings for 2014 and of course is sire of Valegro).  Negro is famed for passing on his ethic for hard work, his co-operative nature and his fabulous hind leg. Night Music has inherited his dam’s lovely head with a handsome dished profile.  He has a good walk, expressive trot and a really outstanding canter.

On May 29, the beautiful State Premium mare, Double Diamond gave birth to an elegant filly, Waverley Diamondz Are Forever.  Sire Zack is trained to Inter 1 (despite time out for an eye problem), is father to 24 approved stallions (including World Champion Sezuan and Glock’s Zonik) and 23 state premium mares. This lovely filly has fabulous movement in all three paces, the most beautiful refined head and long correct limbs.   With such a sire, and a dam performance testing with 9 for rideability, the future for this filly is bright!

In the early hours of June 11, a Furstenball colt out of Brilliant Ring mare Elite/St.Pr. Lady Sunshine (full sister to the International Grand Prix stallion Sir Diamond) arrived.  Named Waverley Fellini, he has superb conformation, three exceptional paces and a stunningly beautiful face. Waverley Stud is thrilled with him and describe him as a top model of a dressage foal.

The breeding finale for this year came when the statuesque State Premium mare, Floria gave birth on July 1st to an exquisite chestnut filly by Dimaggio.  Named Waverley Field of Dreams this is an uphill, super elegant filly with a huge star, four white socks, lovely neck and three wonderful paces. Dimaggio needs no introduction as a producer of sport horses, whilst Floria, who scored a nine for rideability and suitability for dressage is by the exemplary stallion, Furst Heinrich.

‘We are all delighted with the success of the 2015 stud season,’ said Sara.  ‘Six safe foalings, six healthy mares and six cracking foals each one of which is a credit to the team and to all we are striving to achieve at Waverley Stud!’
