Agria Insurance Vet Line

Agria — the specialist pet insurer which launched game-changing equine life insurance in the UK in 2022 — has introduced another outstanding benefit for policy holders in the form of free phone consultations with an experienced equine vet.

The service enables appointments to be made with a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons registered vet, all of whom have worked in clinical practice for a minimum of five years.

Depending on demand, appointments may be made with as little as 10 minutes’ notice, or up to four weeks ahead, via the free Agria Vet Guide App. The consultation is delivered via smartphone or other smart device and is intended to help owners whose horse has a general condition such as a skin wound, rash, snotty nose or temperature etc.

“This is an excellent service designed to help the owner who would like veterinary advice regarding minor, non-urgent conditions,” explains Agria consultant vet Lars Mortensen. “It can be a great help in those situations where the owner is unsure if the vet should be called out of hours, or whether it is something which can wait until normal working hours or perhaps be dealt with yourself.”

When booking an appointment, owners are asked to provide a history of symptoms and may upload pictures and short video clips. The consultation may be made either with your phone camera on or off, as you choose, and while the vet is not able to give a specific diagnosis, they will be able to advise on what course of action to take next. A summary of the conversation and advice given is then emailed to your registered email account.

This service in no way replaces that of your regular vet, who should always be the first port of call for horses displaying more pronounced symptoms such as severe lameness, colic, severe allergic reactions, sore, closed or partially closed eyes etc.

The Agria Vet Guide service is completely optional and offered free of charge to Agria policy holders, and policy cover is not affected by the use of the service, which in any case covers vet bills (for up to £10,000 a year), for recurring injuries or repetitive or chronic conditions to be covered year after year  [providing they do not predate the policy].

The Agria Vet Guide service has already been a hit with pet owners, with comments such as this from Trustpilot: “Absolutely delighted with the system and response — peace of mind so easily achieved. This service is ahead of its time.”

“We have always been proud to put animal welfare at the heart of our policies; we really are with you for life,” says Agria UK Chief Executive Vicki Wentworth, herself a horse owner. “This service helps give our animals the best care possible, around the clock, and their owners peace of mind. We are extremely proud to offer it to our customers, on top of our first-class customer service and fast claims processing,” adds Vicki.
