Piggy March CANTERS to support new campaign to combat wormer resistance in UK horses.

A new pan-industry group, the first of its kind worldwide, has been formed to tackle the increasing threat that wormer resistance poses to horse health and the equine industry. Termed CANTER to communicate the urgency of its crusade, Controlling ANTiparasitic resistance in Equines Responsibly brings together leading experts in the field from the widest reaches of the sector. All recognise the critical consequences of wormer resistance and the need for coordinated action to combat this growing problem.

Badminton and Burghley winner, Piggy March, is supporting the campaign and comments:

“I am supporting the CANTER initiative which aims to reduce the threat worms pose to our horses. It is more important now than ever to ensure we are future proofing our equine population in the UK. Go online and complete the risk checker to find out how at risk your horse is of getting parasites and to ensure we can all do our bit to keep our horses healthy.”

A broad range of risk factors influence your horse’s susceptibility to parasite infection. These can be easily remembered using the CANTER acronym: Clinical history, Age Profile, Number of horses, Test results, Environment to give an overall parasite Risk profile. You can assess the parasite risk of your own horse and become an advocate by talking about this with friends at the yard and online. Enter our competition before 2nd May 2023 and you could also win £100 of Love2Shop vouchers!
