The Society of Master Saddlers, supported by The Worshipful Company of Loriners, held a very successful Bridle Fitting course aimed at teaching delegates the importance of accurate bridle fitting and measuring when developing bespoke bridles.
Held at Moulton College in Northamptonshire, the course was well attended and was designed to give attendees information and advice on bridle making, practical measuring and fitting.
Said Society of Master Saddlers’ Chief Executive Hazel Morley: “The course was a great success and as popular as ever, with delegates asking plenty of questions and making the most of the day.”
The day was split into theory in the morning, which included advice and information on bridling problems from a veterinarian’s perspective, followed by practical sessions in the afternoon with talks and guidance from a range of saddlery and bitting professionals.
Course attendees were given a practical demonstration and were then able to practice how to measure an existing bridle to gain measurements for a bespoke bridle. Fitting assorted bits and inspecting the mouth for bitting, as well as looking at martingales, breastplates and nosebands was also covered throughout the extensive course.
The course provided a great insight into correct practice and the huge role a bridle and bit plays in keeping the horse responsive, comfortable and eye catching across the disciplines.
