Christopher Smith jumps to victory in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Warrington Horse Show

Making the most of the Bank Holiday weekend, Warrington Horse Show near Knutsford held a Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier on Monday and it was Christopher Smith who took victory with a double clear performance.

The forty-six talented starters were all vying for one of just three qualification places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, making it a class not to be missed. The course saw just sixteen combinations produce a clear round for their place in the jump off, leaving it up to the all-important clock to be the deciding factor.

Christopher Smith from Hyde, Cheshire took his place at the top of the leader board with Warriors Glory, an 8 year-old bay stallion owned by Emily Waterside. This combination proved to be on winning form earlier after securing their place in the jump off with a speedy first round. They went on to motor through the jump off and sneaked into first place with a time of 42.42 seconds, a fraction of a second ahead of their nearest rivals.

Taking up second place was Annabel Shields from Crook, Durham riding Robert Shields’ 7 year-old grey roan gelding, Rubin VHS. This partnership left all the fences standing and crossed the finish line on a double clear in 42.61 seconds.

Third place went to Jake Saywell from Newark, Nottinghamshire and his own 7 year-old bay gelding Fantastico C. This pair took the final qualification place on offer with a double clear in 44.43 seconds.
