The sun managed to break through the early morning clouds at Riddlesworth Equestrian Centre to shine on the third annual charity Parelli Games.

As in previous years the selected charities were the local Buckenham House Riding for Disabled Group and the Parelli Education Institute which supports equine welfare, therapeutic riding and youth horsemanship.

EAST (East Anglian Savvy Team) Parelli Instructors; Cath Langley, Jennifer Woods and Anthony Greenleaves organised the event and donated lesson vouchers as prizes, as well as rosettes to each competitor and judged the classes and spotlights on the day.

The competition catered for all levels with classes catering from level 1 up to level 4 students.  Over 20 horse and human partnerships came for a fun and friendly day of savvy horsemanship.  They joined in the fun to show off their communication and relationship with their horse in 3 of the 4 Parelli Savvies; On-Line, Liberty and Freestyle.   In each Savvy the competitors were given 5 tasks to complete in the optimum time of 3 minutes for a maximum score of 100 points, if they chose to continue after the 3 minutes they were deducted time penalties (1 point per second) up to 4 minutes.

Said Cath: “In the afternoon several competitors performed their own Spotlight to music, an open event allowing each partnership to show off their relationship in any savvy they chose, this was a super spectacle and each one was different as well as inspirational. Most were individual spotlights but we did have one joint spotlight with 2 horses synchronising their moves and the final one involving a horse and a pair of dogs!

“The spectators also had a wonderful day commenting on what a lovely calm atmosphere there was on the field with everyone supporting each other and laughing along, with several wishing they’d brought their horses too!

“The home-made cake stall was very popular throughout the day, and with the raffle, RDA book and tack sale a total of £1,230 was raised. We have had lots of fantastic comments about what an enjoyable day it was and how long before the next one!

“With such a huge success we’re all looking forward to our EAST Parelli event in 2014 and look forward to seeing some new faces there too.”
