Did you spot the Exoskeleton exercise boots in Horse And Rider? We were thrilled to see our tendon boots featured in the “This Month We Love” section of Issue 645!
Our Exoskeleton exercise boots were tried and tested by the team at Horse and Rider last summer, and were “highly recommended”. The product tester used our tendon boots for a range of disciplines, including hacking out, and found the Exoskeleton to be “the most breathable boots I have ever used”.
What Makes the Exoskeleton Exercise Boot So Special?
Excellent Strike Protection
Protection against strikes, impacts and overreach is why riders choose to put exercise boots on their horses. The Exoskeleton tendon and fetlock boots do just that. When tested against other exercise boots on the market, far less force was transmitted through the Exoskeleton when it was hit with a force of 5 joules.
Comfort and Protection with Minimal Insulation

The Exoskeleton exercise boot is lined with a specialised polymer instead of neoprene, in order to provide a comfortable boot that offers excellent protection with minimal insulation.
The lining of the Exoskeleton holds very little water or sweat. This is beneficial for a number of reasons. Firstly, wet exercise boots can become heavy, which may contribute to the horse tiring out and can affect the horse’s gait. A wet boot is also more likely to create friction with the horse’s leg, causing it to rub. The Exoskeleton is also great for riders who do not want to contend with waterlogged boots that take ages to dry out!
More than your Average Vented Boot!
The Exoskeleton is more than your average vented boot. We at Cryochaps studied the areas where the legs are most likely to receive strike injuries and impacts, and took steps to provide those areas with excellent protection. We then opened up the rest of the boot to provide extra large vents. This helps to create maximum airflow, allowing as much heat as possible to escape whilst your horse is working. This reduces the amount of heat build up that occurs in the horse’s legs during exercise.
FEI Legal
Our tendon and fetlock boots are FEI legal, including for Young Horse classes. Whilst we always recommend that you check with your governing body as rules do change, we have designed the Exoskeleton to be suitable for a wide range of affiliated national (UK) and international competitions.
