The Horse Photographer meets the IRON DUKE

World renowned fine art photographer Matthew Seed – aka The Horse Photographer - has created a sensational piece of fine art for British independent perfume brand, BeauFort London.

Iron duke

This unique and dramatic artwork has been created to launch ‘Iron Duke’ which is the first of a range of perfumes in BeauFort’s new collection ‘Revenants’.

‘Revenants’ presents a collection of olfactory impressions of figures from Britain’s historical past. Volume 1 ‘Iron Duke’ is a tribute to Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington (1769-1852). Perfumer Julie Dunkley, has created a strikingly powerful fragrance with animal depths - an essence of the celebrated horseman, warrior and politician.

For this commission, Matthew worked closely with Karl Greenwood and Zana Cousins-Greenwood of the Stampede Stunt Company. Their particular expertise proved invaluable in creating the overall effect. https://www.horse-photographer.co.uk/horse-photographer-meets-iron-duke/

‘By using flash and sculpting light around the horse I am able to emulate a style of painting typical of the Old Masters, such as Stubbs, said Matthew Seed.

‘Sculpting light provides the authenticity that post production techniques, such as Photoshop, could never achieve, particularly when shooting outdoors.’

Matthew has developed his unique skills over many years as a fashion photographer and has a true affinity with the horse. He says, ‘the most important factor for me is always the horse not just the style. To connect, to understand and to capture the horse’s personality is vital - without these essential elements all the dramatic lighting in the world would be wasted.’
