Dressage rider, trainer and Cathedral Equine owner Lara Edwards has long been an advocate of natural horsemanship methods, successfully using the techniques on her stallions and during the early education of her homebred youngsters.

Lara was introduced to natural horsemanship when her stallion Cadans M, was asked to take part in a demonstration with Natural Horsemanship trainer Tristan Tucker.

Natural Horsemanship methods avoid fear and pain-based training, instead opting for an understanding of a horse’s natural instincts.

Lara was so impressed with the results that she was determined to develop her own knowledge of natural horsemanship and incorporate the methods into her own training.

All Lara’s yearlings do halter training daily and are taught the correct response to pressure on the halter which means they will happily load into a lorry from a very young age.

Said Lara: “The natural way is so important to me as having had stallions on my yard with my children,  nieces, nephews and staff it is essential that I can be confident that they understand the value of personal space and the fact that they have to keep their distance, reducing the risk of injury.

“When producing my homebred foals, early education is vital to establish boundaries and ensure that they can grow into a well-rounded horse that is a pleasure to own.

“Essentially if you have no control of your horse on the ground, you cannot reasonably expect to have complete control when riding.”

When Lara was developing the Cathedral Equine range she wanted to include products that she would and does use herself in training with her own team of horses.

Two halters feature in the range, the Natural Rope Halter and the Braided Rope Halter.
