When towing a trailer or driving a lorry for long distances it is extremely common to suffer from back pain, contributing factors include the amount of ‘sideways movement’ you have in the driving seat, soft slippery leather seats and a bad headrest that pokes forward.

Back In Action have a handy device to prevent this movement, the CG-Lock (RRP £44.95). Used by the James Bond stunt drivers, it stabilises the hips whilst driving, especially when cornering and braking, decreasing the muscle effort in the lower back. With the CG Lock you are held securely in place so fewer distortions of the spine can occur.

This product can also be used in conjunction with a Seat Wedge (RRP from £29.55) which will raise your hips higher than the knees. This is considered the best driving position for preventing lower back pain. Seat Wedges relieve the back in a natural way by pushing the pelvis forward, which automatically brings your back to an upright posture. However seat wedges do come in a variety of sizes and you need to try one and get expert advice to ensure you have the correct angle for your height and leg length.

Another cause of back pain when driving long distances comes from the headrest. Some makes of car have headrests that force your head forwards taking you out of the ‘ideal seating position’.  To combat this you can use a ‘Backfriend’ (RRP £59.00), a portable seat that improves the seat and the backrest and also improves the position of the headrest. Not only are they great for in the car/lorry – but take them to events (lecture demo’s or sporting events/concerts where the seats are hugely uncomfortable) for the ultimate in comfort and never suffer from a sore back again!  They are perfect for long distance driving and can move from office to car, lorry and back all with no inconvenience.
