Abbey England is delighted to announce that five highly skilled bit makers have joined the team following the company’s acquisition of Young & Co.

Dedicated to maintaining British manufacturing and a heritage of industrial skills to secure future production, Abbey England has acquired a number of businesses over the years, including Liston Locks, B.B Stanley Brothers of Walsall and Equus. They also employ apprentices in the foundry so that the experienced workforce can transfer their skills down to the younger generation.

Richard Brown of Abbey England said: “We are delighted to announce we have secured a further five manufacturing jobs in the West Midlands. The five bit makers previously employed by Young & Co have joined the Abbey Team. We are excited to have these skilled craftsmen and women working alongside us producing the best of British Bits.”

This recent expansion to the foundry workforce will result in a boost to production and it is hoped the output of British-made bits, especially bespoke bits, will increase.

Since the company was founded in 1982, the demand for more bespoke bits has increased as the way in which horses are ridden and trained has developed in line with a more scientific approach to equine anatomy and rider biomechanics. A seemingly small change to bit design can make a big difference to horse and rider communication.

Abbey bits enjoy an unrivalled reputation for the supply of quality made bits in the UK and overseas. Made in the UK and with no minimum order, they are the favoured brand name with leading professional and amateur riders alike, looking for quality and innovation from a supplier specialising in traditional and unusual bits.

Abbey made to measure bits can easily be customised from existing parts and they offer superb comfort and quality.
