David Kempsell (who is also a fully qualified SMS saddle fitter) combined his product design training with his passion for horse welfare and performance to revolutionise the way saddles are constructed. The result is the totally modular WOW™ saddle. The unique features include Flair™ air flocking; the tree with lateral flexion allowing complete freedom of the horse’s shoulder; 23 headplates in a huge range of angles and styles; and at least 15 panel designs in each tree size. Add a wide choice of seat and flaps, and the options become almost infinite, allowing a perfect result for horse, rider and discipline. Ensuring that perfect fit is a worldwide team of experienced Wow Saddle retailers, trained by David to provide an excellent service wherever you are. The icing on the cake is the choice of bespoke finishes. Patent, coloured and embossed leathers, coloured and patterned stitching, and decorative crystal options are available to make your Wow saddle truly one of a kind.
The Equine Behaviour Affiliation (EBA) is a body of like-minded qualified equine behaviourists who share a vision; to create and support an open-minded community of people interested in improving equine welfare to effect long-term behaviour change. To achieve this, we encourage discussion and offer:
- EBA training courses, open to anyone with access to horses
- Mentoring and training for any equine behaviourist, at any stage of their career
- A register of EBA Accredited Behaviourists to serve the horse-owning public
- CPD to disseminate and discuss new information and encourage excellence.
The impacts of stress - and the wide variety of behavioural and physical expressions resulting - are thoroughly supported by an ever-growing multi-disciplinary body of research. Yet, many traditional beliefs about the management and training of horses persist. Beliefs such as the natural equine hierarchical structure, ‘normal’ levels of aggression, autonomy creates disobedience, and the horse’s motivations for behaviours that appear disagreeable to us.
Training techniques and learning theories are one piece of a larger puzzle in behaviour change. Rather, we feel it is paramount:
- to pursue a deeper understanding of assessing and improving their complete environment.
- to understand the impacts of management and how to address trauma and stress-related issues.
- to explore how mental health impacts upon physical health, and
- to develop healthy, sustainable relationships between people and equines.
A deeper understanding and real connection benefits people and horses alike - leading to safer, healthier co-operation between species.
EBA members are passionate about disseminating this approach and actively exploring the profound effects of domestication in our attempts to enhance equine welfare and horse-human relationships. We seek to work in harmony with well-established and excellent organisations, such as IAABC, to improve professional behaviourist practices and broaden awareness of ethical management and training.
