Lucton School equestrian centre is set within 14 acres of the beautiful North Herefordshire countryside, with two all-weather areas, and miles of off road hacking. Our staff are BHS qualified, and we have a range of well-schooled horses and ponies to suit all needs. Whether riders are complete beginners, competent riders improving their dressage, jumping, and competition skills, or training towards professional qualifications, we can help them improve their horsemanship in a friendly, encouraging and safe environment.
We are a Pony Club Centre, and alongside their studies, Lucton Students can study BTEC and GCSE qualifications in horse management & stable management. Our sixth formers have the opportunity to study for the BHS Assistant Instructors Certificate.

The Equine Behaviour Affiliation (EBA) is a body of like-minded qualified equine behaviourists who share a vision; to create and support an open-minded community of people interested in improving equine welfare to effect long-term behaviour change. To achieve this, we encourage discussion and offer:
- EBA training courses, open to anyone with access to horses
- Mentoring and training for any equine behaviourist, at any stage of their career
- A register of EBA Accredited Behaviourists to serve the horse-owning public
- CPD to disseminate and discuss new information and encourage excellence.
The impacts of stress - and the wide variety of behavioural and physical expressions resulting - are thoroughly supported by an ever-growing multi-disciplinary body of research. Yet, many traditional beliefs about the management and training of horses persist. Beliefs such as the natural equine hierarchical structure, ‘normal’ levels of aggression, autonomy creates disobedience, and the horse’s motivations for behaviours that appear disagreeable to us.
Training techniques and learning theories are one piece of a larger puzzle in behaviour change. Rather, we feel it is paramount:
- to pursue a deeper understanding of assessing and improving their complete environment.
- to understand the impacts of management and how to address trauma and stress-related issues.
- to explore how mental health impacts upon physical health, and
- to develop healthy, sustainable relationships between people and equines.
A deeper understanding and real connection benefits people and horses alike - leading to safer, healthier co-operation between species.
EBA members are passionate about disseminating this approach and actively exploring the profound effects of domestication in our attempts to enhance equine welfare and horse-human relationships. We seek to work in harmony with well-established and excellent organisations, such as IAABC, to improve professional behaviourist practices and broaden awareness of ethical management and training.

Bloxham School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 11 to 18.
