The National Schools' Equestrian Association (NSEA) has been established since 1991. Our aim is to promote and encourage the participation in and recognition of equestrian sport within schools in Great Britain.The NSEA is the recognised body for equestrianism in schools throughout the UK, providing intra and inter-schools competitions for team and individual riders. Competitions for teams and individuals start at Grass Roots level and build up to National Schools qualifiers and annual Championships.We are an Independant Partner of the British Horse Society and work closely with the BEF and the governing bodies on a number of projects in order to produce the best opportunities for inter-school equestrian sport.

The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) is the governing body for polo in the UK, Ireland and many other countries throughout the world. As such, it is responsible for the regulations and rules under which the game is played. This includes the handicapping of any one playing in the U.K. or Ireland, and the fixtures list. The object of the HPA is to further the interests of polo generally and support by all possible means the common interests of its affiliated clubs and associations. In 2004, the HPA became an incorporated company limited by guarantee. The directors of the company are the Stewards who form an executive committee which meets usually four times a year.

Our network of 500 volunteer groups organise activities such as riding, carriage driving, vaulting, showjumping and Hippotherapy to up to 28,000 people each year. We have been carrying out our life-changing activities for over 40 years, and take great pride in the exceptional standard of our instructors and volunteers (18,000 in all). In August 1995 the English Reining Horse Association was founded. By April 1996 membership had grown to 46 and the name had changed to British Reining Horse Association. That year was also when our affiliation was accepted by the NRHA. By 2003 membership had grown to 119 and another name change was approved, namely British Reining (BR) and we incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee. By becoming a member of British Reining you will be joining the National Affiliate of reining - the NRHA in the USA, and also the Member Body of BEF in the UK. Reining is the fastest growing equestrian sport in the UK, and you will find British Reining members to be highly supportive and friendly, although competition is high in the arena.

All riding schools, according to law, must hold a licence to operate their business and the Riding Establishments Act 1964 1970 Licence is granted by Local Authorities. An ‘Approved School’ is an establishment which has been inspected and found to be satisfactory by one of the national Approved Schemes. The Association of British Riding Schools conducts such a scheme, setting a high standard for horse care and requires to be satisfied that the instruction given is well presented and correct in .content. The size of the establishment is immaterial and we have both very large and very small fully approved member schools.
